Seeing wildlife all around Parashar always had the desire to paint wildlife….to be a wildlife artist…. perhaps he will never know, but when he is painting, then nothing else exists. He is right back at the scene where he first saw my subject. It’s almost as if time stands still as I relive my memories through painting….

Just a little about him …..

M. D. Parashar (Murali Dhar Parashar, born 8 July 1961) is a famous Indian wildlife photographer and painter. He is famous for his tiger paintings and lampblack or soot art work. Parashar was born and brought up in Ranthambhore, a part of Sawai Madhopur district in state of Rajasthan in western India. Parashar is a graduate of Rajasthan School of Art (1978 – 1982).

Parashar is often considered Ranthambhore’s first son. Some may attribute this to his brilliant artistry, and despite its unarguable genius, Parashar’s popularity arises more from the pride he has evoked in the people of Ranthambhore. Born and raised in the towns flanking the Ranthambhore forests (Ranthambhore National Park), Parashar’s earliest memories involve treks through the forests to catch glimpses of the elusive tiger. His passion for Ranthambhore and all its inhabitants, quadruped, biped and stationary inspired him to found the Ranthambhore School of Art and Wildlife Conservation Society in 1982. With the word ‘fee’ being taboo to each of the 400 art students trained every year, the school provides livelihood through vocational training to most of Ranthambhore.

Buying or viewing Parashar’s Art

Perhaps you would like a special piece of artwork to remind you of an experience or as a gift for someone with a particular interest. Please get in touch to discuss any ideas that you have or to buy one of the artists painting. We regret that the artist do not undertake any commissions of domestic animals or human portraits.

Parashar also shares the creative process with his clients. Clients can follow the progress of their commission on-line through Del Info Art. We update our page with the work in progress and the clients are sent an email whenever the page has an updated camera shot of their commissioned artwork. This idea is proving very popular and saving or printing the images of the developing painting from web page adds a little extra to the provenance of the finished painting.

Clients sometimes ask Parashar if he could contact them if I ever he produces a painting of a particular bird, animal or location. Please feel free to get in touch with your special requests. We can not make any promises but if at a later date he generates any suitable work we’ll get in touch.

Thinking of commissioning his wildlife painting?

Then this is the page for you.

Most of his original paintings now sell before or shortly after completion, so if you would like to own one of Parashar originals then your best option is to commission a painting especially for you ( He only complete 10 – 12 originals per year).

It all starts with a simple email

He tries to make the whole process as simple and enjoyable as possible, and it generally all starts by a prospective customer emailing me with an idea in their mind of a painting they would love to own.

(I have access to literally thousands of images to work from, particularly African and American wildlife, big cats and Gorillas, but also lots more).

Ideas are shared and a plan develops

Once I have an idea of the planned painting then I research my images and piece together a possible composition. I contact the customer and we generally have a chat and swap more ideas until we come to a decision.

The Painting begins

When I have the final plan I can start the painting in earnest, (this is where the real fun begins) and quite often I share the development of the painting with the customer by sending emails or posting images on my site. A small Non-Refundable charge is required before the painting begins, this covers expenses for my research time etc up to this point.

Commission Approval – worry free

When the painting is finished it’s time for the customer to see and approve it. Over the years we have come up with the following approval process which I think is very fair -

When the painting is finished the customer pays for it in full.

Immediately after the payment has cleared I send the original to the customer for viewing in the comfort of their own home.

If for whatever reason the painting does not come up to the customers expectations it can be returned within 14 days for a full refund (minus shipping costs and return costs).

Copyright Info / Testimonials

Copyright is retained by the artist on all the artwork created. To help other customers, customer emails may be used on my website as a testimonial. Please note if you would rather not have a testimonial on my site you can opt out by simply letting me know.

Specialist Subjects

If the commission is for a very specialist / unusual subject, then he will require an increased non refundable deposit before the painting begins.

The first Cartier Travel With Style Concours D’Elegance to be held in India was huge success. The man behind it ‘Manvendra Singh of the royal house of Barwani’. The vintage and classic car expert, restorer and author was the curator for India’s first concours d’elegance. His job was to put together about 60 fine automobiles for an international-class vintage and classic car event. That’s where knowledge comes in and Manvendra Singh did manage to pull it off. The following video features some of these cars. My father can also be seen in this video along with his dear friend Satish Shah.

Held last month, at the Turf Club in Mumbai, the cars were shipped in from different parts of the country and were judged by an array of international automotive experts and celebrities. Each of the 59 cars that were present had a story to tell, that too, a unique Indian tale. So it would have been pretty difficult for the judges as well to choose a few winners from amongst the thoroughbreds. But they managed and here is the list of winners of the key awards:
Best Of Show: 1939 Delahaye 135 MS owned by Maharaj Duleep Singhji of Jodhpur
Best of Class – Classic
I. 1924 Rolls-Royce 20HP owned by Shriji Arvind Singhji of Mewar
II. 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental owned by Amir Ali Jetha of Mumbai
III. 1930 Lancia Dilambda owned by Hemant Kumar Ruia of Mumbai
Post-War Classic – 1946 to 1959: 1952 Cadillac Series 62 owned by Diljeet Titus of New Delhi
Roadster–Convertibles from 1936 to 1946: 1949 Healey-Westland owned by P P Asher of Mumbai
Exotic (Special, unique or rebodied cars): 1923 Rolls-Royce 20HP owned by Dharmaditya Patnaik of Bhubaneshwar

Great hunters like Jim Corbett (in the North) and Kenneth Anderson (in the South) were amongst India’s pioneers in wildlife conservation.

India banned hunting more than two decades ago. With “NO” hunting a common man (specially our friends abroad) would expect our jungles to be full of wildlife.

Unfortunately this is not the case. My personal opinion is that a hunter is not a person who kills for fun. On the contrary he protects his hunting grounds. Why does he protect his hunting grounds? Because he loves to be there and also to enable him to hunt longer.I will give you an example. In olden days when Shikar was legal in India , one had to book a “block” within the range . Once you had booked it NO one else was allowed to hunt there. If some one was found roaming around in the area with a weapon it was considered an offence. By legalising hunting ……the poacher was kept at bay. Plus the hunter had his “ethics” to go by . The result ……wildlife flourished.

People may excuse me but the Fact is that an old “Shikari” can tell you more about the animals in the wild than a Forest Official (today) can. For the simple reason that while the Shikari is passionate about his “subject” the official looks at it as his “job”.

Here are some rare pictures from the time of the ‘Raj’

We should all be grateful to the digital age as these pictures are now preserved for ever for every one to see and enjoy instead of being stored in someones personal album in some corner of the world and would surely have been lost for ever, once its passed into the hands of someone who has no passion for hunting or its history.

I am a fan of Jim Corbet and his lessons. He had a passion for the animals and Indian forests and the people around the forest.

Let’s follow them and save the jungle and its animals.
